Core Skills & Expertise

Coach Flood's main skills focus with Mites is Skating and Puck Handling. In his opinion, these are the two core skills in which all other skills (Shooting, Passing, Speed, ext.) are built upon.

Why I Coach

"The best part of coaching Mites is watching the kid's skills and understanding of the game grow over the course of the season. I'm honored to be a part of teaching the youngest players the fundamentals of the game and passing along the passion and love for hockey that I have."

Coaching Approach

"I would much rather have a team full of players less skilled but give %100 all the time, than a team that has all the talent in the world but no work ethic. Hard work and effort go a long way in my book."

Coaching Experience

Coach Flood brings his passion for hockey and more than 3 years coaching experience to the ice.

"I've played Hockey for 30 years with a few different organizations. I started out with the Zion Wings for Squirts and Pewees, then went on to the Glenview Stars for 2 years of Bantam, 1 year of Midget Minor and one year of Midget Major, all in the CSDHL. I finished up my youth hockey career at the Lake County Atoms for my last 2 years of Midget Major CSDHL. I started coaching at the Komets when my son Tristan started playing in 2021."

Favorite Quote

"In Russia, we had tough times. Only one puck, I always wanted the puck, so I learn how to keep it and make space and get puck when other guy has it." Pavel Datsyuk (My favorite player!)
